Our Story.

Built from frustration. Driven by purpose.

Here's the truth — buying hair shouldn't have ever been hard.

But if you've got afro or textured hair, you already know it can be. The endless search for a texture that actually matches yours. The "human hair" lie on the packaging. The money spent, the hope invested, the parcels opened with excitement and closed with disappointment. Over and over again.

We know, because we did it for years.

Kolani started with one simple, stubborn idea — that we shouldn't be considering anything which is "close enough". Our textures aren't difficult, or a lot, or too much. They're beautiful, specific, and worth getting exactly right.

So we built the brand we always wished existed. One that actually understands afro and textured hair. One that actually delivers on quality. One you can trust before you've even opened the box.

This is Kolani.

Founder Story.

Hi, I'm Rochelle.

Kolani started the day my usual extensions were out of stock. Annoying, but it's ok, right? I'll just find something else, I said to myself, smugly opening up Reddit, YouTube, blogs and everything else in search of alternatives. I compared everything, and ordered the best-reviewed "human hair". What turned up was plastic. With a "human hair" label slapped on it. To make matters worse, the “hair” smelt like poison.

And that was the moment. Nah. The bar is too low. Never again.

Standing there with a fistful of shiny smelly plastic, another thought crept in: hang on… why am I spending £200 to £300 on extensions every few months anyway, and still ending up disappointed half the time? I wear extensions most of the time, so I'd made my peace with the cost. But surely it shouldn’t be shedding the way it does, and losing texture, not sitting right and needing replacing every 2-3 months? I was done all with this.

But if I'm honest, this goes back much further than one empty shelf.

My hair and I have been through it. I lost my hair — completely — more than once growing up. Relaxers, a curly perm, years of heat and salon chairs every few weeks. I remember being told it was my fault, that I just wasn't taking good enough care. I remember a big chop at eleven that I cried the whole way through. I remember being fifteen starting a new school one with shoulder-length hair and then turning up the next with barely any at all.

Eventually, I learned to care for my hair myself. I learned about protective styling, about what my hair could and couldn't take, about how to actually look after it. Today my hair is healthy, strong and mine — and I know exactly how hard-won that is.

That's the thing most hair brands will never understand. I don't just sell extensions. I know what it feels like to lose your hair, to grow it back, to protect it fiercely — and to still want to look incredible while you do. That's why Kolani obsesses over the things that matter: real texture matches, quality you can trust, and hair that lets you switch it up without sacrificing what's underneath.

I built Kolani for every woman who's tired of settling. Who wants to feel confident, beautiful and fully herself — without the guesswork, without the disappointment, and without wondering if the hair she just paid for is going to let her down.

I've been her. This is for her.

What KOLANI Stands For.

KOLANI isn't just a hair brand.

It's a standard. A refusal to accept "almost." A commitment to doing things properly — from how the hair is crafted, to how it's packed, to how it performs in the long run.

Every piece is reviewed. Every decision is intentional. Every texture is accounted for.

Because you deserve extensions that were actually made with you in mind.

The Bigger Picture

This is just the beginning.

KOLANI was built to grow — into more products, more solutions and a bigger conversation about what Black beauty actually deserves.

The best is yet to come.
